I am not sure what your preferences are regarding faith in a theistic deity, or the alternative, an atheistic, non-faith worldview. Sometimes people confuse those two terms: theistic which means with God, while the opposite – atheistic – means, without God.
In this world there are those who believe in God and those who do not, and in the middle between these two continents are those who are not sure whether there is such a thing as God but they are sincerely seeking the truth; and then, let’s not forget those who live on another planet (my tongue is in my cheek) called planet “agnostic” in some other universe who believe that you can never know God because he is beyond knowing just as they believe that it’s impossible for human beings to know anything about how the universe was created because, just as God is not here to be discerned, neither are the conditions around today when God supposedly created.
I need to refer to an online dictionary for help:
Agnosticism was coined by the biologist T.H. Huxley, and comes from the Greek agnostos, which means “unknown or unknowable.”
A theist is the opposite of an atheist. Theists believe in the existence of a god or gods.
Deists are often connected to Isaac Newton’s Clockwork Universe theory, where the universe is compared to a clock that has been wound up and set in motion by God but is governed by the laws of science.
Whatever your belief, do you know that God loves you so much, he has a special Word of instruction for you which has your name written on it? He also loves you so much he wants you to experience him as your Heavenly Father who knows your every need and who is waiting for you to show him trust, and pray so that you can experience his miraculous supply.
Some of you may dismiss my words, but have you ever considered that perhaps the reason why you cannot believe is because your spirit inside you is dead? If there is a God, which I believe there is, and he holds all power in his hands, then he loves you more than anyone, enough to want to open the eyes of your spirit so you would know who he is, and who you are.
I am not sure if you are a believer in God or not, but did you know that us humans are a dull lot who need help in seeing the light? As the Bible states, the human mind, without the work of God’s Spirit quickening our dead spirit, can never understand or comprehend God; listen to this from the Bible:
“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 3:14-15)
It means in regard to faith in the God of the Bible, in order for you or I to believe, we need a huge dollop of faith sent from God to penetrate our heart; as the Bible says,
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourseves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
So if you feel you lack faith to believe, then ask him for this gift of faith to believe. Pray this prayer, “Dear God, please give me your gift of faith in my heart and spirit so I can believe you.”
We also need his Spirit to come down and bring our dead spirits to life – that faculty we have which communicates with God, but which, alas, everyone is born with a broken antenna or receiver that cannot discern God’s signal, until it is repaired by the power of the Spirit of all spirits, who can revive our dead spirit, so we can again feel that which is unlimited, tangible, yet unseen. Listen to this same passage in Ephesians telling us that we were born dead in our sins (without the Spirit of God to discern God):
“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us, also, lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.” (Ephesians 2:1-6)
Whether you believe in God or not, have you ever thought that maybe the reason why atheists or others do not believe in God is because they lack the right equipment? Or rather, they lack the fully working equipment from God.
Because, the Bible says that every human being born is born with a dead spirit, which means we cannot believe God unless we first receive the proper equipment to believe; it says, “As for you, you were dead in your transgression and sins, in which you used to lived when you followed the ways of this world and the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.” (Ephesians 2:1-3)
So let me ask you, please: which spirit do you follow? Do you follow the world’s thinking, the spirit of this broken and dirty, hopeless world? Or do you believe in the God of real hope who when we have belief in him, he sends his very own Spirit to stir us with his love and conviction that he is alive and is doing wonders in our lives. Let me put it like this: Which spirit/Spirit sounds better to follow and which one would you prefer to follow? Otherwise, if you are following the spirit of this world, then you are in dire need of saving, because your feet are in the direction of the street called Hellbound; and so, before we can actually believe, we have to have our faulty equipment repaired – our spirit – so we have the right equipment to discern God, otherwise it’s impossible to discern God.
The truth of this is clearly stated in the Bible, “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 3:14-15)
Therefore, we need God to send his Holy Spirit to repair our faulty receiver in order to clearly see that which is unseen – until then, we are blind and we have as much hope of seeing as a blind man.
That’s the reason why there are so many non-believers in this world because they just don’t have the right equipnent, they lack spiritual receivers to receive the Spirit of God because their spirits are dead and need reviving; once revived by the Spirit of God, then the eyes of their spirits will be opened to discern spiritual matters.
This is why Jesus said, in John 3:3, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” And in the same chapter, verse seven, “You must be born again.”
Without the Spirit quickening our dead spirits and illuminating our dull minds, we can neither know God nor please him. The Bible says, “Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.” (Romans 8:8)
But to Christians, it says, “You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.” (Romans 8:9-10)
So we need to ask the great Physician to repair our spirits.
So how about you invite him into your heart? Come to the Cross and give him your heart and all your sins, and believe that Jesus died for you on the cross to take your sin so that you can be free from guilt and punishment, forever.
If you want to taste and find out for yourself if there is such a God, ready and willing to upgrade your life, then the Bible invites you with these words, “Taste and See that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who makes God his refuge.” (Psalm 34:8)
But to get our feet away from Hellbound to Heavenbound, we first need to do a U-turn called, “repenting.” In other words, we need to repent of our sins. Although that word “sin” is thought by some as outdated, it’s just another word for our shortcomings, our mistakes, and the Bible makes it clear that everybody has fallen far short of God’s standard or his “glory.” As it says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
But the good news is this, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
Pray a simple prayer of repentance by following these words:
I’m sorry for trying to live my life without you. I am sorry for not believing in you or loving you, for going my own way; I now want to change direction, so I repent, and I decide to follow you. I am sorry for all my sins; I believe you died so that I could pin all my sins, sicknesses and pain onto the cross of Jesus, spiritually. I choose to follow you, and so I give you the rest of my Life. Please come Holy Spirit of God into my heart and bring to life my dead spirit, and make me born again, so I can serve you with my spirit following your Spirit. Please baptise me with the power of your love, so that I can always have you living in my heart. Guide me and empower by your Holy Spirit to follow you.
In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.”
After you prayed that prayer in faith, give God time to move in response to your faith, and more importantly, in response to the faith he gives you as a gift.
Let God, himself, who is your best Physicians and Surgeon peel back the many layers of unbelief and brokenness you have, and let him heal you by the power of his love; let his Holy Spirit penetrate and heal your deepest wounds and pain which only his Spirit can do.
And then, we need to ask God to open the eyes of our blind spirit so that he endows us with spiritual eyes so we can discern him. The Bible says that when we come to believe, God does something supernatural in our heart – he actually comes down and gives us the faith to believe as a gift. That means we don’t have to work up enough faith for salvation, but he saves us by giving us enough grace to believe.
The Bible expresses it this way:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)
Then when God breathes his Spirit and revives your dead spirit, suddenly you will see yourself differently – you will see everything through a new set of eyes. And most importantly, you will begin to discern God in your life, not as some abstract concept, but as a real person and a Spirit, and you will begin to have a relationship with God of the universe, through the real, tangible and physical presence of the Holy Spirit. You will experience a tangible feeling of God’s Spirit moving into the inside of your body, bringing you a feeling of peace and joy that you are resting in the best love in the universe, resting in he who is holding up this universe with his breath, and he who holds you up in his everlasting arms of love; He will begin to pour down his spiritual power into your heart; he will pour down his love into your heart through his Holy Spirit, and through this unlimited love you will be able to love your enemies with his unlimited love. You will feel a strange warmness and power deep down in your emotions, which is God beginning his wonderful healing in your emotions and spirit.
And once you receive this love, you will never ever have to live in hopelessness again, because when God pours out his love into our heart by the Holy Spirit, we can feel his incredible, unending and impenetrable love, which will always give us hope that he is in control of everything, no matter what’s happening to us, or how we feel.
This is all explained in the Bible which is your manual for how to live the Christian life. “And hope does not disappoint us, because God poured out his love into our hearts, by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” (Romans 5:5)
And then you will have the spirit in you by which you can hear God’s words spoken to you every day; until then, you remain dumb and spiritually illiterate to the ways of God; and that’s the reason atheists remain atheist, it’s because their spiritual antenna needs repairing and awakening; until then, they remain dead and dumb to the possibility of God.
But one day God will bring to light the secrets and deep recesses of our heart.
“This will take place on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.”(Romans 2:16)
